Blountville Family Eyecare was founded in 2004  by Dr. Mark Bowers to  deliver exceptional eye care to the Blountville, Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City, TN community. Since it’s inception, Blountville Family Eyecare has had two core values exceptional patient care and exceptional customer service.  In order to achieve the best patient care, Blountville Family Eyecare invests heavily in the latest eye care technology.  We have technologies for early detection of many eye diseases including macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Our Doctors

Picture of Dr. Mark BowersDr. Mark Bowers graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 2002. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians. After graduation, Dr. Bowers worked with a local practice and in 2004 founded Blountville Family Eyecare.

Dr. Bowers offers complete eye care for the entire family from infants to seniors. He has particular interest in the diagnosis and management of eye disease including dry eye treatment, diabetic eye disease diagnosis and management, cataract, and glaucoma. Dr. Bowers also offers refractive services which include hard to fit contact lenses such as bifocal and lenses for astigmatism.

Dr. Bowers’ hobbies include hunting, fishing, and aviation. As a private pilot , Dr. Bowers, understands the special vision requirements of pilots. Dr. Bowers and his wife, Amanda, have two wonderful children, Jacob and Sara.

Dr. Tara Pigeon, an avid Tar Heel fan and a 1994 graduate of The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, obtained her Doctor of Optometry in 1998 from the Southern College of Optometry.  She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and Northeast Tennessee Society of Optometric Physicians.  She and her husband, Dan, and their four children have lived in Johnson City for 15 years.  Her hobbies include reading, gardening, and running.
